C&RL News June 2017 308 Cheryl A. Middleton, associate university librarian for learning and engagement, Or- egon State University Libraries & Press, is the 80th president of ACRL. “What an honor it is to serve ACRL as your incoming president. As I’ve worked with ACRL members and leadership, I continue to be impressed by the intellect, passion, and advocacy that we bring to the challenges and issues that all libraries are facing in the current political climate. It is imperative that ACRL members and leadership continue to advocate for our profession’s core values of access, privacy, intellectual freedom, and preservation of information in order to support library us- ers and maintain our professional integrity. During my presidential year and beyond, I am excited to work with our membership and with other ALA divisions to provide the resources and tools needed to engage with and respond to the challenges that we will face in the upcoming year. “This is also a time to reflect on pro- fessional development and programs that inspire us, help us cope with rapid change, and prepare us meet the future needs of library users. ACRL’s committees have been hard at work engaging and listening to the membership to develop resources and professional development. This year I look forward to fostering the current work be- ing done by our committees and to identify future opportunities to advance the ACRL strategic plan on behalf of our profession. “I’m excited about the upcoming year and throughout my presidency, I plan to focus on listening to understand our di- verse experiences. I’d like to build on the ACRL 2017 conference programs related to responding to change in our profession to develop meaningful ways for ACRL to sup- port our members and their organizations. I’d like to focus on change not for the sake of change but to enable our members and institutions to respond to the needs of our learners. I look forward to the continued sharing and exchange of ideas and exper- tise, hallmarks of our profession, to enrich and enhance our day-to-day and future practices.” As president, Middleton will preside over the ACRL Board of Directors and ACRL Ex- ecutive Committee, and plan ACRL’s major program at the 2018 ALA Annual Confer- ence.
