He has also served as associate director of University Library Ser­ vices at Virginia Commonwealth University; assistant head of the Cataloging Department at Duke University; and assistant head, and later head, of the OCLC Cataloging Section at Wayne State University. Active for many years in the ALA, Hirshon served as president of the Asso­ ciation for Library Collections & Technical Ser­ vices (ALCTS) in 1992, and he served for six years as editor of the division’s Newsletter. He was a w a rd e d th e ACRL/ALCTS/LAMA/LITA Hugh C. Atkinson Award in 1998. D an Id d in gs has been named executive direc­ tor of the Pennsylvania Academic Library Con­ sortium, Inc. (PALCI). “Dan’s background and library technology experience are a good match for the needs of PALCI now and in the future,” said Rush Miller, president of the PALCI Board of Directors. For the past year, Iddings has been a consultant to libraries regarding Web-based services and technology planning. Prior to that, as assistant director for Networked and Auto­ mated Services for the Carnegie Library of Pitts­ burgh, he served as project director for the highly successful Three Rivers Free-Net and the Electronic Information Network. He is cur­ rently active in ALA and LITA, and he has been active in CNI, ASIS, NISO, the Urban Librar­ ies Council, PaLA, and other associations. He has been a frequent speaker at professional meetings and recently delivered the keynote ad­ dress on library services in the 21st century at a conference in Taiwan. J o h n G. Z en elis has been appointed university librarian at George Mason University (GMU). Zenelis came to GMU from Temple Univer­ sity, w here he had been deputy university li­ brarian since 1994. At Temple he also served as associate director o f li­ braries for Automated and Administrative Ser­ vices (1986-94) and act­ ing university librarian (1995-97). Zenelis was assistant health sciences librarian for Access and T e c h n ic a l S e rv ic e s John G. Zenelis (1982-86) and head of the Bibliographic Control Department, Law Li­ brary (1978-82) at Columbia University. He began his career in librarianship at the Research Libraries of the New York Public Library (1974- 78), serving first as a cataloger and then as a refer­ ence librarian. Zenelis served on the PALINET Board of Trustees for six years; he was a found­ ing member of the Pennsylvania Academic Li­ brary Connection Initiative; and he is a member of organizations such as the Association of Re­ search Libraries, the Coalition for Networked Information, ACRL, and the Northeast Research Libraries Consortium. He is currently working on his doctoral dissertation in administration of higher education at Temple. R oian n Baird has been appointed assistant archivist at the University of Northern Colo­ rado in Greeley, Colorado.
