Originally a cardboard affair, the suggestion box underwent renovation in 1981 when library staff presented a handmade, var nished, permanent version— complete with por traits of Johann Sebastian and P.D .Q . Bach on each side— to music librarian Thomas F. Heck. Heck, who personally answers all the ques tions, suggestions, and complaints submitted to the box under “Johann’s” signature, says it has prompted its fair share of patron interaction and is a very good public relations device. Some of the queries are answered in verse or dialogue and all contain a fair amount of musical puns. Ever since the box was made available, student-staff relations at the library have been very chordial. • * with regard to library and archive collec tion development. Fee: $111.75.
