C&RL News has a new mechanism to add to your arsenal of ways to k eep up-to- date— “Fast Facts.” This new colum n aims to be an “eclectic mix of facts, statistics, quotable quotes, and other inform ation of interest to academ ic and research librar­ ians.” The focus of the colum n is to “high­ light recent inform ation not readily avail­ able that is related directly to academic librarianship, higher education, scholarly com m unication, and other issues o f inter­ est to m em bers o f the profession and their learning com m unities.” We are pleased to welcome Ann Viles, coordinator of reference and instruction at Appalachian State University, to our pages as editor of the new “Fast Facts.” Ann’s 27- year career includes stints at the Universities of Tennessee and Memphis and the Curtis Institute of Music.
