Have you considered lately that: • Every library has at least one area of services or processing that is not completely satisfactory. • A librarian from another institution might be helpful in improving those areas of concern. At least, he or she could provide a different perspec tive. • Most libraries have limited funds for bring ing in consultants. • By an exchange of expertise, both libraries would benefit at minimal cost. Beginning September 1, 1981, the ACRL office will provide a clearinghouse for the exchange of free consulting services. ACRL will maintain a file of librarians who are willing to provide their services on an exchange basis. When a library wants someone to help in a particular area, ACRL will supply names from its file. ACRL assumes no responsibility for the nego tiations betw een librarians and institutions. Neither does it endorse or recommend the per sons who are listed in the Free Consultant Ex change (FCE) file. ACRL will act solely as a switching agent. To list your name in the FCE file follow the guidelines below: All notices should be subm itted on 3" x 5" typewritten index cards, with consultant’s tele phone number. The information should include the following: 1) Areas o f expertise, e.g., CIRCULATION SYSTEMS. Type in capital letters and (optional) add an asterisk after the chief specialization. 2) Training and experience. As brief and spe cific as possible: e.g., MLS, Ph.D. (LS), Col umbia; 17 state contracts, 8 federal, 1964—79; 12 yrs. top-level university library experience. 3) Geographical data. Type primary region in capital letters: e.g., CENTRAL OHIO. Add notes as appropriate: Will travel out of state. 4) Address and telephone number. 5) Additional data. As appropriate: e.g., refer ences provided. For further information about “FC E,” contact ACRL, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611; (312) 944-6780. We regret we cannot accept notices by phone. O p p o rtu n itie s Sought ACRL would like to maintain a file of academic libraries that can provide an oppor tunity for visiting foreign librarians to work on their staff, either in an exchange arrangement, as a tem porary replacem ent, or as a non- salaried visitor. Send information to Julie Carroll Virgo, ACRL/ALA, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611; (312) 944-6780.
