D ep artm en t o f E d u catio n fo r fellow ships to sup­ p o rt q u a lified students who w ish to pursue th e M L S degree w ith a sp ecialization in records m an ­ agem ent. T h e focus w ill prepare students fo r posi­ tions in governm ent, industry, and oth er o rganiza­ tions engaged in the process of applying m odern technology to solve th eir info rm atio n problem s. T h e 36 -cre d it program w ill begin in Septem ber 1983 and continue through th e sum m er o f 1984 w ith an internship. •T ufts U niversity L ib raries, M edford, M assa­ chusetts, have received a $ 7 5 0 ,0 0 0 challenge grant from th e N ational E n dow m en t for the H u m an i­ ties. T h e grant is to b e m atched on a th ree for one basis over the next th ree years, resulting in an en ­ dow m ent o f $3 m illion. T h e m onies w ill be used to develop and m aintain hum anities collections and services, as w ell as a “tools for tom orrow ” program in w hich T u fts librarian s will develop expertise in new areas of knowledge relating to research and teach in g in th e hum anities. •T he U niversity o f Pittsburgh’s School o f L i ­ b rary and Info rm atio n Science has been awarded $ 3 8 ,0 0 0 by th e Pennsylvania D ep artm en t o f E d u ­ catio n for th eir Innovative T echnology P ro je ct for W estern Pennsylvania Schools. T h e p ro ject will train school librarian s and teachers for m icrocom ­ puter technology transfer in classrooms and w ill be a co llab o ratio n am ong th e university, p u blic and private schools, the p u blic lib ra ry system , and m i­ crocom p uter com p any representatives. •UTLAS, In c ., T o ro n to , has received fin an cial support o f $2 m illion from th e P rovince o f O n tario , through th e Board o f Industrial Leadership and D evelop m ent and th e O n tario D evelop m ent C o r­ p oration. T h e funding w ill assist U T L A S in up­ grading its lib ra ry autom ation systems to current com p uter technology and in pursuing its corporate developm ent plans. •W ashington State L ibrary, O lym p ia, has re­ ceived $ 6 ,7 5 0 from several p u blic and p rivate o rga­ n izatio ns to establish a co lle ctio n o f te ch n ica l, sem i-techn ical, and popular m aterials on th e erup­ tion o f M t.
