ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries 6 2 6 In the N e w s This issue runs the gamut from traditional to technological. O n the technological end w e continue our series on Internet resources with Jeffrey Coon’s compilation of religious studies resources. Larry Oberg gives us a look at an other Internet resource with his report on the developm ent and use of ACRL’s College Librar ies Section’s listserv—Collib-L. Pamela Snelson summarizes the recent ASIS (American Society of Information Scientists) meeting that exam ined integrating technologies. On the more traditional en d we continue the discussion about traditional reference ser vice with Dan Ring’s “Searching for darlings: The quest for professional status.” Ring makes a case for the traditional reference model and asserts that librarians “suffer from status-anxi ety and need a variety of artifices, or ‘darlings,’ to shore up a w eak professional identity.” This issue also includes draft revisions of an ACRL guideline and statement. Take a moment to review both “Guidelines on the selection of general collection materials for transfer to special collections” and the “ALA-SAA joint state ment on access to original research materials.” Hearings on both documents will be held in February during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Los Angeles. If you cannot attend the meeting in Los Angeles be sure to send your comments to the individuals indicated in the articles. Speaking of Los Angeles, this issue includes the list of meetings of ACRL groups scheduled by the time w e w ent to press. Hope this helps you plan your L.A. schedule. This issue also includes another important item of ACRL business—the list of candidates that will appear on the 1994 ballots. Take a moment to see w ho is running for office. If you are in Los Angeles for Midwinter plan to attend the Chapters Council Presidential Forum on Saturday night to hear the candidates for ACRL president, Patricia Breivik and Maureen Pastine. —Mary Ellen K.
