Five testing laboratories investigated usin g th re e m e th o d s (e le v a te d te m p e ra tu re , e le v a te d light flux, a n d in c re a s e d e x p o s u r e to p o llu ta n t gases) to sim ulate natural p a p e r aging. T h e results w ere subjected to p e e r review b y p a n els o f scien­ tists a n d p a p e r conservators. All three testing m eth­ od s w e re d e e m e d scientifically s o u n d a n d h a v e p assed th e ASTM c o nsensus ballot process. In ad ­ dition to th e re p o rts o n CD, ASTM is d istributing designations (descriptions) o f the actual m ethods.
