During his 35-year tenure at UM, he brought m any honors to the campus, including consistently positive reviews about UM’s regional depository operation. In 2003, R ichards re c e iv e d th e M o n ta n a Library Association’s Honorary Lifetime Membership Award. D e a t h s Helen Lightfoot-Fried, 98, d ied on O c­ to b er 8, 2003. She w as k n o w n as “Miss Lightfoot” for th e close to 30 years during w h ic h she serv ed as h e a d of th e In diana U niversity Libraries’ D o cu m en ts D e p a rt­ m ent. She b e g a n w o rk as a n “a p p re n tic e ” at th e Iow a State Library after grad u atin g from high school a n d b e g a n h e r lifelong d e v o tio n to a n d ex p e rtise in g o v ern m en t p ublications.
