Billings is the author or editor of works dealing w ith contem porary literature and bibliog­ raphy, as well as articles about library cooperation a n d th e electronic inform ation revolution. His most recent book is Magic andHyp ersystems: Con stu cting the Information-Sharing Library (Chicago: ALA, 2002). D e a t h s Ralph Harvey H opp, university lib rarian at University o f M innesota Libraries (1971-76), has died. H e joined the University Libraries in 1953 as assistant director an d assum ed th e leadership o f th e library in 1971. D uring his administration, com puters becam e an essential part of library re­ search and the Minnesota Union List of Serialsw as p ub lish ed in 1974. After five years as university librarian, H o p p step p ed d o w n in 1976 to pursue o ther goals, including fundraising for the library'. In 1978, h e accepted th e position as h ead o f the Institute of Technology Libraries, retiring in 1982. B ecause o f his k e e n interest in physical fitness, H o p p published a book, Enjoying the Active Life A fter5 0 (Stone Wall, 1979).
