A  f e w  w ords on our type
To the Editor:

T h e p rin t in College & R esearch Libraries
News is to o  small. I believe it is six point. That
is to o  sm all for the average read er over 40 to
read com fortably. A nyone w h o  is visually im­
paired w o u ld  find the print size a serious handi­
cap. College & Research Libraries seem s to  be
in ten-point type.

N ot trusting m y o w n  judgm ent, I sh o w ed
an issue to  o n e o f m y colleagues w h o  is a p ro ­
fessor in the d ep artm en t that teac h es teachers
o f th e h an d ica p p ed . She felt that th e print size
w as a disservice to  the h an d ica p p ed . I realize
that y o u  are trying to  p u t m ore material o n  less
pages, b u t yo u  have g o n e too far. T hank you

To the Editor:

After reading “Jo u rn ey  to Transylvania: The 
1991 ALA C olloquium  o n  Library Science” in 
C&RL News, M arch 1 9 9 2 ,1 w an ted  to  cry. W hen 
I th o u g h t a b o u t their [Romania’s] 46 years of 
isolation from  n e w  scholarly resources, their 
h u n g e r for u p -to -d ate inform ation, an d  their 
n e e d  for intellectual freedom  for so long, I could 
have w e p t buckets o f tears. B ut n o t o n ly  for 
th e m  w o u ld  I w e e p  th e se  b u ck ets, it w o u ld  
b e  m ostly for so m e o f th e  d e v e lo p in g  c o u n ­
tries w h ic h  h av e access to  this fre e d o m  b u t 
w h ic h  d o  n o t ta k e  a d v an ta g e o f it d u e  to  th eir 
indifference, tak in g  for g ra n te d  th eir freedom ! 
Let us n o t b e  guilty o f e v e n  o n e  m o m e n t o f 
in difference to  o u r b lo o d -b o u g h t freedom !—
