C&RL News October 2020 458 ACRL Board of Directors’ actions, June 2020 Highlights of the Board’s meetings In lieu of the face-to-face meetings that would have been held at the canceled 2020 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, the ACRL Board of Directors met virtually on June 19 and June 23. The Board met with the leaders of the ACRL Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, as well as its four goal-area committees--Value of Academic Libraries, Student Learning and Informa- tion Literacy, Research and Scholarly En- vironment, and New Roles and Changing Landscapes--to assess progress on ACRL’s strategic plan, the Plan for Excellence. With feedback from the Board, these committees will finalize their reports and develop their work plans for 2020-21. The Board also received updates from the liaison to the ALA Executive Board and ALA Treasurer, representatives from the Project Outcome for Academic Libraries Task Force, ACRL representation on the Steering Com- mittee on Organizational Effectiveness, ACRL 2021 conference chair, and ACRL division councilor. The Board reviewed the FY21 budget for ACRL and Choice and chose to postpone action to later in the summer, when more information may be available on the financial impact of COVID-19. In August 2020, the Board took action, through an asynchro- nous virtual vote, on a revised FY21 budget, and the Board will confirm its virtual vote at its next synchronous meeting. Board members, whose service ended on June 30, 2020—Lauren Pressley, Emily Daly, and Caroline Fuchs—were recog- nized and thanked for their service. The Executive Com- mittee will vote on the recommendation by November 16, 2020. Publications • Approved a revised version of the ACRL Code of Ethics for Special Collections Librarians. • Approved the reappointment of Rich- ard Saunders as editor for RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage for another three-year term of July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2023. Member engagement • Renewed for three-year terms with new charges the Library Marketing and Outreach Interest Group and Digital Badges Interest Group. • Renewed for three-year terms the Academic Library Services for Graduate Students, History Librarians Interest Group, and Research Assessment and Metrics Inter- est Group. • Merged the Global Library Services Discussion Group into the International Perspectives Discussion Group. • Updated the name, charge, and com- position to reflect the creation of a new ALA division—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures—for the Hugh C. Atkinson Memo- rial and Award Committee and ACRL/LLAMA Interdivisional Academic Library Facilities Survey Editorial Board. • Approved division-level committee composition update to include an excerpt from the ACRL Guide to Policies and Pro- C&RL News October 2020 460 cedures, “Since it is important that the vice- chair/chair be knowledgeable about the re- sponsibilities and concerns of the committee, it is suggested that the committee vice-chair/ chair be selected from the existing committee membership.” Operations • Rescinded the previously approved FY21 dues increase for personal and retired members as a symbolic gesture of solidarity and compassion during the COVID-19 pan- demic. The FY21 rates will be: o Personal members: $68 o Retired members: $44 • Confirmed the $5 student dues rate for an additional two years, for a total of five years.
