Gillian “Jill” Gremmels A p p o i n t m e n t s Gillian “Jill” Gremmels has been named only the fourth library director of Davidson College in the 100 years the position has ex­ isted. Gremmels began her work as the Leland M. Park director of the Davidson College Li­ brary on June 20. The title of her position hon­ ors her predecessor, who served as the E. H. Little library direc­ tor from 1975 until last year. Gremmels had previously worked at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she served as director of its Vogel Library for 13 years. She created the Wartburg information literacy program based on national standards that were being concur­ rently developed by ACRL. But Wartburg un­ veiled its initiative two years earlier, following five years of development. Gremmels worked at Wartburg Theological Seminary, DePauw University, and Monmouth College before ac­ cepting the directorship in 1994. Tim Gritten has been named head of library systems at Indiana State University Library. John Pollitz, former associate university librarian for public services and innovative technology at Oregon State University is now director of the libraries at the University of Wisconsin­Eau Claire (UW­Eau Claire). As UW­Eau Claire’s direc­ tor of libraries, Pollitz provides leadership and planning for UW­ Eau Claire’s library ser­ vices and information resources by working with academic depart­ ments, support units, and administrative offices. He also works with other UW System library directors to enhance the system’s delivery of collections and services. Pollitz previously served as director of O’Keefe Library at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, and as an as­ sistant library director at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Heyman, associate dean of uni­ versity libraries at the College of William C&RL News September 2007 542 and Mary, retired July 1, after 40 years of service to the profession. Heyman started her career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and also worked at the Uni­ versity of Missouri­St. Louis, but most of her career was spent in various positions at the College of William and Mary. She was ac­ tive in ALA and served as the chair of the fi rst LITA National Confer­ ence, and chair of the Regional Conference Committee, the Bylaws and Organization Committee, and the LITA/Gaylord Award Committee. Heyman was elected secretary of ACRL’s University Libraries Section and served on various ACRL committees. She chaired both the SIRSI International Us­ ers’ Group and the VTLS Users’ Group. Heyman represented SOLINET on the Berna L. Heyman OCLC Users Council for two terms and was twice elected to its Executive Com­ mittee. She served as a member of the 3M Library Systems Advisory Council. In addi­ tion, Heyman was active in the Virginia Li­ brary Association, chairing its College and University Section. She received the Irwin McGraw­Hill Innovation in Entrepreneur­ ship Pedagogy Award from the Academy of Management in 2000 for the work she did in conjunction with a William and Mary faculty member. She also received, on behalf of the College of William and Mary, the John Cotton Dana Public Re­ lations Award from ALA in 1994 for the library’s role in the college’s tercentenary celebration. George Lupone has retired as associate di­ rector of Cleveland State University, follow­ ing 26 years of service.
