Welcome to the February 2010 issue of 
C&RL News. The multitude of entertainment 
options available to today’s students, from 
the Internet to video games, mean that their 
attention is more divided than ever. Learn-
ing valuable research and information liter-
acy skills is probably the last thing on their 
minds during library instruction sessions or 
classroom visits. It is possible to use popu-
lar culture to your advantage in the class-
room, however. In this month’s issue, Nedra 
Peterson outlines ways popular media can 
enhance instruction in her article “It came 
from Hollywood.”

Taking full advantage of new technology 
tools can be another method to increase 
student’s research skills. Jason Puckett pro-
vides tips on how you can “Superpower your 
browser with LibX and Zotero” to increase 
search and citation management capabilities.

A new term can provide new opportu-
nities for outreach with faculty. Adrian K. 

Ho and Daniel R. Lee discuss “Recognizing 
opportunities” for conversational openings 
in this month’s scholarly communication 
column. Working with diverse populations 
on campus can provide additional opportuni-
ties for partnerships and collaboration. Jody 
Gray shares “A different approach to diversity 
outreach” that has proven successful at the 
University of Minnesota.

Voting in the 2010 ALA/ACRL elections 
opens in mid-March. In this issue Frank 
D’Andraia and Joyce L. Ogburn, candidates 
for ACRL vice-president/president-elect, share 
their visions for the association to help you 
make an informed decision at the polls.
