Carol Krismann retired from her position as senior instructor and faculty director of the University of Colorado-Boulder Business Library and was appointed senior instructor emeritus. D e a t h s Frank Turner, 66, recently appointed uni- versity librarian, professor of 19th-century European history and former university pro- vost at Yale University, has died. Turner was named university librarian in September after serving as interim university librarian since January 2010. He continued to serve as direc- tor of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manu- script Library. Turner served as director for seven years, and previously served as pro- vost between 1988 and 1992. Turner doubled the number of classes taught in the Beinecke and pioneered a digitization project to make Beinecke materials available online. Turner began teaching at Yale full time in 1971, and received the Yale College Award for Dis- tinguished Undergraduate Teaching for his work teaching European history. Turner was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1983 and a fellowship from the National En- dowment for the Humanities, and is the au- thor of four academic books and more than 25 scholarly articles. specialist for library and scholarly applica- tions. R e t i r e m e n t s Susan Anthes has retired from her posi- tion as senior instructor and associate di- rector for the University of Colorado-Boul- der Libraries Public Services Division and was appointed senior instructor emeritus. Tom Carter will retire January 2011 as dean for academic resources and library director at Saint Mary’s College of California, after ten years of service and 36 years in the profes- sion. Carter began his career at the University of the Pacifi c in 1974, and served at San Jose State University (1976–80), Loyola Marymount University (1980–94), and Gonzaga Univer- sity (1994–2000).
