Victoria Lynn Packard has been named coordinator of instructional services and distance learning at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. Joyce Tokuda is now learning resourc- es librarian at Kapiolani Community Col- lege Library. Susan Weber is now librarian in the ref- erence department at Kapiolani Community College Library. Elaine Didier, director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum since 2005, was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Michi- gan School of Information. This award recog- nizes and honors alumni who have at least 25 years of professional service in the infor- mation professions and have made outstand- ing contributions to the field. Didier’s pro- fessional career prior to the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library includes 22 years at the University of Michigan in various capacities, including associate dean of the Rackham School of Graduate Studies, interim director of Academic Outreach, and director of Infor- mation Resources at the business school. Her service on professional associations includes the ACRL Board of Directors, past presidency of the Michigan Library Association, and a three-year term on the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees. She was the first woman elected president of the Ann Arbor Rotary Club in 1993. A p p o i n t m e n t s Rosemary Huff Arneson has been named li- brarian for the University of Mary Washington. Arneson has served as university librarian for Carmichael Library at the University of Mon- tevallo in Montevallo, Alabama, since 1999. In addition, she served as chair of the university’s Web advisory committee and encouraged the library’s use of Web 2.0 technologies, such as Facebook, Flickr, and the instant messaging platform Meebo. Arneson has given numerous presentations addressing the use of technology in the library and in the classroom and has contributed to several regional publications, including the Encyclopedia of Alabama. He is remembered at USF for his thoughtful guidance to students and colleagues, and the tireless example he set as a teacher, researcher, and mentor; and across the academic library community for his humor, intelligence, and commitment to the profession. Joleen Westerdale is now instructional services librarian at the Old Dominion Uni- versity Libraries R e t i r e m e n t s Mary Marko, reference and collection de- velopment librarian at Kapiolani Community College Library in Honolulu, Hawaii, has re- tired after 34 years of service to Kapiolani’s Lama Library. D e a t h s Howard Dess, 81, retired physical science resource librarian at the Rutgers University Libraries in New Brunswick, New Jersey, died July 5, 2010. Dess worked as a librarian in the Rutgers University Libraries for 25 years. He oversaw the Rutgers’ Chemistry and Physics branch libraries and served as chair of the Rutgers’ New Brunswick Libraries Collections Group, the Scholarly Communications Com- mittee, and the Strategic Plan subcommittee on scholarly communication. He also served as a member of the University Senate and as an active member of ACRL. He was a prolifi c author of scholarly and professional articles, book reviews, and conference presentations. In the April 2003 issue of C&RL News, Dess coauthored (with Myoung Wilson) “The bewil- dering new world of scholarly communication: Helping faculty understand the issues.” Locke Morrisey, head of collections, refer- ence, and research at the University of San Francisco (USF) Gleeson Library, has died. Morrisey was deeply committed to the library profession, publishing and holding leadership positions at the local and national levels; serv- ing as a mentor to San Jose State University library school students with internships at USF; and was a much-beloved and respected fi gure at his institution and in the academic library community.
