A p p o i n t m e n t s Glenn Bunton has been named director of library technologies and systems at the University of South Carolina Libraries. James Mullins has been appoint the Esther Ellis Norton Professor of Library Science at Pur- due University Libraries. Mullins has been dean of libraries and professor of library science at Purdue since 2004. Before that he was associate director for administration at MIT Libraries, and prior to MIT was university librarian at Villanova University. He also held administrative positions at Indiana University, while serving as a part- time faculty member in the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science. At Purdue, Mullins has helped create a vision for the Purdue Libraries to meet the challenge of the 21st century by redefi ning the role of librar- ies and its faculty, integrating them more into the university’s instruction and discovery efforts. He was instrumental in creating the Distributed Data Curation Center at Purdue, which has se- cured grants to study data management. Mullins just completed an elected term on the board of directors of the Association of Research Librar- ies and is currently on the board of directors of the Center for Research Libraries. He also serves on the Science and Technology Sec- tion of the International Federation of Library Claren M. Kidd, retired professor of bib- liography and librarian of the L. S. Young- blood Energy Library at the University of O k l a h o m a , was honored with the Mary B. Ansari Dis- t i n g u i s h e d Service Award during the Geological So- ciety of Amer- ica’s Annual Meeting. The award is given by the Geoscience Information Society in recognition of signifi cant contributions to the geoscience information profession. Kidd was the geology librarian at the University of Oklahoma for more than 30 years. She specialized in the identifi cation and organi- zation of gray literature important to geo- scientists, particularly maps and fi eld trip guidebooks. Kidd’s interest in gray literature led to her participation in the development of a union list of Australian fi eld trip guide- books, published by the Australian Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geo- physics. She also developed a union list of 4,000 unpublished manuscript and archival geological maps of New Zealand, which was published by the New Zealand Geological Survey. Closer to home, she endorsed the Geoscience Information Society’s initiative to improve access to guidebooks, serving as a contributor and compiler for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th editions of The Union List of Field Trip Guidebooks of North America. Susanna Pathak is the new director of library and academic information services at the Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin. Elizabeth Sudduth has been appointed di- rector of the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at University of South Carolina Libraries. Emily Alschback is now research and instruction librarian at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Library. Katherine (Katie) Blocksidge is the new reference and instruction librarian at the John L. and Christine Warner Library of Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Techni- cal College. Linda Bourgeois has been appointed refer- ence/catalog librarian at the University of the Rockies Library. Laura Brown is now music cataloging librar- ian at the Old Dominion University Libraries in Norfolk, Virginia. Jason Colman is now publishing project manager in the University of Michigan Library’s Digital Publishing Production unit. Kristina Eden has joined the University of Michigan Library’s Copyright Office as program manager. Yijun Gao has been appointed assistant professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. Janice “Jenny” Hock is now acquisitions librarian at Angelo State University in San An- gelo, Texas. David Ketchum has been appointed resource sharing librarian at the University of Oregon Libraries. Jonathan McGlone has been named pub- lishing project manager in the University of Michigan Library’s Digital Publishing Produc- tion unit. Holly Mercer has joined the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Libraries as associate dean for scholarly communication and research services. Anne Shelley has joined Illinois State Uni- versity as the multimedia/music librarian. Felicia Smith has joined the Stanford Uni- versity Library as information and instructional services librarian. Benjamin Tucker has been appointed business, economics, and social sciences librar- ian at the University of Pugent Sound’s Collins Memorial Library. R e t i r e m e n t s John S. Page, ALA life member, member of ACRL, and Black Caucus of the American Li- brary Association member, has retired from the Learning Resources Division of the Uni- versity of the District of Columbia after 42 years of service. His first job was as Young Adult Librarian at the Oceanside (NY) Free Library followed by establishing a library at the Stone-Brandel Center in Chicago. In 1969 Page became senior media special at the Fed- eral City College before becoming the head of technical services; he served as deputy director from 1984 to 2000; and in 2000 he became associate dean of learning resources division. He transitioned into retirement by relinquishing the associate dean position in 2010 and retired December 31, 2011. D e a t h s Glenn Anderson, Auburn University Li- braries assistant dean for collections devel- opment, died January 21, 2012. Anderson served the libraries of Auburn University for more than 30 years, touching many lives as he provided the Auburn community with information services. As assistant dean for collections, Anderson provided guidance to build the library collection.
