Andria Burton has been named metro library manager for the Metro Library of Tulsa Community College. Carl Grant has been selected to fill a newly created position—associate dean for knowledge services and chief technology officer—at the University of Oklahoma Libraries. Stephanie Titsworth Ingold has been named manager of the Southeast Library of Tulsa Community College. Mary Prentice has been named online li- brarian for American Public University System’s Academic Library Center and School of Security and Global Studies. Kent Randell has joined the St. Mary’s Col- lege of Maryland Library as college archivist and assistant librarian. Alana Verminski is now reference and instruction librarian at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Thomas Whittaker has been appointed head of media cataloging at the Indiana Uni- versity-Bloomington Libraries. R e t i r e m e n t s Mary McInroy, head of the map collection, has retired from the University of Iowa Libraries after 42 years of service on April 5, 2013. Most recently McInroy oversaw the digitization of approximately 200 historical Iowa atlases for the Iowa Digital Li- brary. She has worked tirelessly to get the holdings of the map collection online, and nearly 150,000 items have been added to the catalog under her stewardship. McInroy was named ILA’s Member of the Year in 2002. She was also selected to help plan the Maps & Libraries conference in 2005, held at the Library of Congress. Gary Menges has retired after 33 years at the University of Washington Libraries and previous A p p o i n t m e n t s Tanya Zanish-Belcher has joined the faculty at Wake Forest University’s Z. Smith Reynolds Library as director of special collections and university archivist. Zanish-Belcher’s worked previously at Iowa State University, where she served as head of special collections and uni- versity archives since 1998. In 2011, the Society of American Archivists elected her as a fellow. Joseph P. Lucia has been appointed dean of university libraries at Temple University. Lucia, who has served as uni- versity librarian and di- rector of Falvey Memo- rial Library at Villanova University since 2002, will assume his new position at Temple on July 1, 2013. As dean of university libraries, Lucia will oversee all of Temple’s nine libraries as well as Temple Uni- versity Press. Lucia will lead a major program of library development, including the construction of a new signature building at Temple’s Main Campus that will connect the university with the greater Philadelphia community. Lucia served as a member of the board of trustees of Lyrasis from 2009 to 2012. He was Lyrasis’ founding president from 2009 to 2010. He currently serves on both the board of Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc. and the board of the Catholic Research Resources Alliance. Prior to his arrival at Villanova in 2002, Lucia served as director for library technology and access services within Information Resources at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. His ACRL activities ranged from serving as chair of the Conference Executive Committee for the Third National ACRL Confer- ence in Seattle in 1984 and serving as chair of RBMS (1992–93), helping to organize the Wash- ington State ACRL Chapter. Tom Whitehead, senior curator of Rare Books and Literary Manuscripts at the Special Collec- tions Research Center at Temple University Libraries, has retired. Whitehead established his career at Temple Libraries in 1967, and over the course of five de- cades, he oversaw the development of a litho- graphic manual collec- tion, the Contemporary Culture Collection, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Collection, and the printing, publish- ing, and bookselling collections. Whitehead also oversaw the librar- ies’ acquisition of the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin collection, recognizing the value of this incomparable resource and precipitating efforts to save the material and house the archives here. Deaths Susan Gilroy, online librarian at American Public University System (APUS), has died. Gilroy joined APUS libraries after serving as library director at Travis Air Force Base. She was also a founder of the Native American facility in Santa Fe. Gilroy served the libraries for the past six years supporting both schools of Education and Public Service and Health. Sharad Karkhanis, 78, former librarian at Kingsborough Community College-CUNY, passed away on March 28, 2013. He was one of the founders of the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, and served as that organization’s first president (1980-1982). He was also president of the Library Association of the City University of New York (1967–69). Kate W. Ragsdale, retired planning officer for the University of Alabama (UA) Libraries, passed away February 22, 2013. Employed by the libraries for more than 20 years, Ragsdale first worked in the Business Library before joining the library’s administration. She was responsible for coordinating all aspects of planning and reporting ranging from annual plans and statistical reports to large construc- tion and renovation projects, including Hoole Library, Rodgers Library, Bruno Library, and the Library Annex. During her career, Rags- dale was an active member of the ACRL, the Library Administration and Management As- sociation, Special Libraries Association, South- eastern Library Association, and the Alabama Library Association—serving as an officer when called. Ragsdale was awarded the UA Library Leadership Award for faculty in 2004 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012 from the UA School of Library and Information Studies.
