dec13_a.indd December 2013 551 C&RL News In the Welcome to the December 2013 issue of C&RL News. This month, ACRL President Trevor A. Dawes continues his focus on libraries and fi- nancial literacy education. For this issue, Dawes invited Adi Redzic, executive director of the fi- nancial literacy think tank iOme Challenge, to highlight the student perspective on why it is vital for librarians in be involved in financial literacy education on campus. Join Dawes on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia for a forum on financial literacy education to learn more about this important topic. Brief additional information on ACRL activities at Midwinter is available on page 568. Creating innovative partnerships with campus areas outside the library can be an excellent way to maximize project, and student, success. Kathryn Ye- linek and Michael Coffta discuss “The value of gradu- ate internships in creating online tutorials,” focusing on how Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania partnered with instructional technology students. In this month’s Scholarly Communication col- umn, Gail P. Clement examines “American ETD dis- semination in the age of open access,” outlining the trend towards flexibility in ETD deposit policies for graduate students happening on many campuses. Almost anyone who has worked as a reference librarian, myself included, has a story or two tell about our friend the stapler. Jason Vance takes a hu- morous look at his experiences with the lives and deaths of academic library staplers in this issue’s The Way I See It essay, “Staplercide!” Make sure to check out his library stapler Tumblr site, as well. According to tradition, we also take a look back at ACRL’s accomplishments over the past fiscal year with our Annual Report. The report demonstrates the progress the association has made on achieving the goals of the Plan for Excellence along with other programs and services. Help make the next year as successful as the last by volunteering to serve on an ACRL committee. The call for volunteers is available on page 573. Make sure to check out the other features and departments, including Washington Hotline and Internet Reviews, in this issue as well. Thanks as always for reading the News, and we’ll see you in 2014! —David Free, editor-in-chief, dfree@ala.org 50 STM publishers, 1 web-based platform Select the eBooks you need from thousands of best-selling current resources Intuitive interface optimized for health sciences content IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN US LATELY, VISIT R2LIBRARY.COM AND START YOUR 30-DAY FREE TRIAL.
