Lynn Baird, dean of the University of Idaho Libraries, was elected the board chair for Or- bis Cascade Alliance, a nonprofit consortium of 37 colleges and universities in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. A p p o i n t m e n t s Matt Bejune has been appointed executive director of the library at Worcester State Uni- versity, in Worcester, Massachusetts. G. Marcille “Marci” Frederick, is now Eastern Mennonite University’s director of the Sadie A. Hartzler Library. Frederick was library director at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois, a post she had held since 2006. Before that she was director of library services for eight years at The King’s University College in Edmon- ton, Alberta. And previous to that, she was director of library and information services for five years at the Institute for Christian Studies, a graduate school in Toronto. In addition to her library work over the years, Frederick served on university committees on environmental sustainability, racial/ethnic diversity, gender equality, and spiritual formation. She has taught several courses over the years, includ- ing “Truth and Falsehood in the Marketplace P e o p l e i n t h e N e w sAnn-Christe Galloway of Ideas,” centering on information-seeking and retrieval. Janice Lewis has been named director of the J. Y. Joyner Library at East Carolina University (ECU). Lewis had been interim dean of aca- demic library services at ECU since August 2012. She has overseen the creation and dedication of the Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery, expan- sion of Joyner Library operation to 24 hours/ five days per week, increased grant activity, and intensified emphasis on support for research and teaching at ECU. She joined Joyner Library in 1999 as the first coordinator of library instruction and also held positions of business librarian, head of reference services, and associate dean of academic library services. Before joining ECU, Lewis was a staff attorney and special projects counsel for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now the American Association for Justice) and reference and collections librarian at Virginia Commonwealth University. Lewis has written and published extensively on the topics of library assessment and trends affecting academic libraries. She is active in ACRL and the Library Leadership and Management Asso- ciation. Lewis received the 2012 East Carolina University Centennial Award for Excellence in the area of service and is a three-time member of the ECU Servire Society. Beth McNeil has been named dean of the library at Iowa State University-Ames. McNeil served as professor and as- sociate dean for academic affairs at Purdue Univer- sity-West Lafay- ette, since 2009. McNeil has been a member of ACRL since 1989 and was elected to the ACRL Board of Directors as director-at-large in the 2015 ACRL elections. James Procell is now director of the Dwight Anderson Music Library at the University of Louisville. Keith Rocci has been appointed library director at Pima Community College’s Com- munity Campus. Prior to joining Pima in 2013, Rocci was the fi rst year experience librarian at Washburn University for fi ve years. He is the national faculty coordinator in Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management and has served as a lecturer there since 2010. Rocci has also served in public services positions at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. Tim Shearer has been named director of Library and Information Technology (LIT) at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). Shearer will lead a compre- hensive technol- ogy program for the library and will manage the LIT de- partment, includ- ing planning, bud- geting, and setting policy for informa- tion technology. He will represent the library on select campus commit- tees, including the University Information Tech- nology Executive Council, and will maintain collaborative relationships with organizations that provide information technology services to academic institutions and libraries. Shearer was most recently the head of software development within the LIT department. He has also held the positions of head of the Core Application Development Team and web access librarian at the UNC-CH Library. Keith Webster, dean of libraries at Carnegie Mellon University, has been appointed director of the university’s Emerging and Inte- grative Media Ini- tiatives. In taking this additional re- sponsibility, Web- ster will facilitate the growth of the Integrative Design, Arts and Technol- ogy Network, the Emerging Media Master’s Degree program, the Inte- grative Media Program in NYC, and the Enter- tainment Technology Center. Appointed dean in 2013, Webster was integral in establishing IDeATe’s intellectual commons in Hunt Li- brary, where it is fostering interdisciplinary study and research. He will continue to serve as dean of University Libraries, and to hold the rank of principal librarian. He holds a courtesy academic appointment in the School of Public Policy and Management in the Heinz College. Beth Canzoneri is now reference/instruc- tion librarian and liaison to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Idaho Library. Sarah Carrier has been appointed North Carolina research and instruction librarian at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Library. Christopher Dieckman has been named metadata and cataloging librarian (serials and media) at the Iowa State University Library. Jeri Wieringa is the new digital publish- ing production lead for the Mason Publish- ing Group in the George Mason University Libraries. Jennifer Kelly Wilder has been named development and communications officer for the George Mason University Libraries. Evan Williamson has been named digital infrastructure librarian at the University of Idaho Library. Retirements Margaret Tufts Tenney has retired after 15 years as head of the Harry Ransom Center Reading Room at the University of Texas- Austin. Deaths Mary George, senior reference librarian at Princeton University, has died. George began her professional career in interlibrary loan at the University of Michigan and later became a reference librarian and bibliographic instructor before joining Princeton to head the General and Humanities Reference Division (GHRD). While at University of Michigan, George also lectured in the graduate program of library science. She continued to teach library science at Drexel and then Rutgers University after her arrival at Princeton. In addition to heading GHRD for two decades, Mary coordinated user education, most notably the Writing Pro- gram. She served in many acting capacities: director of slides and photography, head of interlibrary services, head of public services, music librarian, German studies librarian, and politics librarian. She was elected and served eight years on the ALA Council. George was the UNESCO liaison for the International Documents Round Table of GODORT. She chaired the Policy and Planning Committee of ACRL’s University Libraries Section. She was also an accomplished author, most notably her two books Elements of Library Research (Princeton University Press) and Learning the Library: Concepts and Methods for Effective Bibliographic Instruction (Bowker).
