A p p o i n t m e n t s Ivy Anderson has been appointed interim executive director of the California Digital Library (CDL) at the University of California. In this role, Anderson will provide leadership to CDL and oversee its strategic direction. She is responsible for the organization’s overall management, including planning, policy de- velopment, and resource allocation. Sara Baron has been named university librar- ian at Duquesne University. Baron comes to Duquesne from Regent University, where she was dean of the university library since 2005. Baron held previous positions at the Texas Christian University and the University of Massachusetts. She has been actively involved with the Catholic Library Association (CLA) since 2001, including her time as president of CLA from 2013-15 and her current role as past-president. She has also served in various capacities for the Library Administration and Management Association and regional library associations. Nick Graham is now university archivist, based in the Wilson Special Collection Library, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Library. Ida Jones has joined the Morgan State Uni- versity as university archivist. Glenn McGuigan has accepted the position of head librarian at Penn State-Harrisburg. Paul Sharpe has been appointed the first university librarian for the newly created Uni- versity of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. P e o p l e i n t h e N e w sAnn-Christe Galloway Jeff Steely has been appointed dean of libraries at Georgia State University. Steely previously served as associate dean and director of central libraries at Baylor Uni- versity. Steely oversees library resources at Georgia State, which include more than 1.5 million volumes, more than 7 million graphic materials, archival materials, and the Collaborative University Research and Visualization Environment. Steely was at Baylor since 1999, starting as outreach services librarian. He has been assistant director for client services, director of cen- tral libraries, assistant dean, and associate dean. Prior to his career at Baylor, Steely was a serials librarian in the Library of the U.S. Courts in Chicago. James Teliha has been appointed director of the library and learning commons at Utica College. Teliha will oversee the operations for the library, which includes Utica College’s physical collection of more than 100,000 books, 800 print jour- nals and magazines, and the library’s digital resources of more than 100 online databases and 5,000 electronic journals. He will also manage the library’s other student and fac- ulty services, including the writing and math and science centers that provide walk-in tutoring to students. He previously worked as a senior consultant for the Clairmaxine Group, advising institutions of higher edu- cation on libraries, higher education admin- istration, and issues of intellectual freedom and privacy. Retirements Rosann Bazirjian, dean of university libraries at University of North Carolina- Greensboro (UNCG) for the past 11 years, has announced her retirement, effective April 1, 2016. Bazirjian first became dean in Au- gust 2004 when she came to UNCG from Penn State. Among her many accom- plishments were the dramatic enhance- ment of the library’s spaces; creation of new collaborative learning spaces, in- cluding the Learning Commons and Digi- tal Media Commons; and renovated space for Special Collections and University Archives, Electronic Resources and Information Technology, and the Music Library. Bazirjian also has strong commit- ment to diversity, including the creation of the ACE Scholars Program, the naming of Gerald Holmes as diversity librarian, the creation of the Diversity Residency position, and the development of a strategic plan for diversity. Bazirjian was committed to making research broadly available to the scholarly community and to the public, which led her to secure membership for the University Libraries in leading professional associations working toward the goal of open access such as SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and CNI (Coalition for Networked Information). Laine Farley, executive director of the Cali- fornia Digital Library (CDL) at the University of California, has retired after leading the CDL for nine years. As CDL’s longest serving executive director, Farley presided over many of CDL’s most significant accomplishments: expanding initiatives in library publishing and data management, developing policies and tools for UC’s open access initiatives, oversee- ing the large scale digitization of University of California’s (UC) library holdings in partner- ship with Google and the Internet Archive, and establishing UC libraries as founding members of the HathiTrust.
