T h e initial w h i r l , that of c o m b i n i n g the highest peacetime d e v e l o p m e n t s of scientific and t e c h n i c a l skills a n d s h a p i n g t h e m f o r w a r p r o d u c t i o n , is n o w b e c o m i n g a vast p r o v - i n g g r o u n d f o r i n v e n t i v e and a d v a n c e d t h i n k i n g w h i c h , w h i l e still c o n c e r n e d p r i m a r i l y w i t h m a t t e r s of w a r , also re- flects the p o s t w a r w o r l d , not o n l y in science a n d the applied arts, b u t also in the social sciences, economics, i n t e r n a t i o n a l a f f a i r s , and the h u m a n i t i e s . A m o n g p e r i o d i c a l s c o n c e r n e d w i t h eco- nomic and g o v e r n m e n t a l p r o b l e m s b o t h n a t i o n a l and i n t e r n a t i o n a l are those de- scribed as f o l l o w s : International Postwar Problems is the q u a r t e r l y r e v i e w of the A m e r i c a n L a b o r C o n f e r e n c e on I n t e r - n a t i o n a l A f f a i r s . T h i s l a b o r c o n f e r e n c e w a s " f o r m e d by l e a d i n g f i g u r e s of the A m e r i c a n l a b o r m o v e m e n t , r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s of the E u r o p e a n l a b o r m o v e m e n t , and A m e r i c a n and E u r o p e a n scholars. I t s aim is to assist the l a b o r m o v e m e n t of this c o u n t r y in the s t u d y of p o s t w a r p r o b l e m s a n d the f o r m u l a t i o n of p o s t w a r policies. B y p r o v i d i n g a t h o r o u g h and f r a n k discus- sion of the p o l i t i c a l , economic, and social p r o b l e m s w h i c h the w o r l d w i l l h a v e to f a c e at the end of the w a r a n d w h i c h are a l r e a d y b e g i n n i n g to take shape as the w a r d r a w s to its c l i m a x , Postwar Problems is designed to aid in a c h i e v i n g this a i m . American Economic Security is pub- lished by the C h a m b e r of C o m m e r c e of the U n i t e d States. T h e purpose of this m a g a - z i n e is t o p r o v i d e c u r r e n t i n f o r m a t i o n on social s e c u r i t y . I t lists recent p u b l i c a - tions on t h a t s u b j e c t . Renaissances, pub- lished in A l g i e r s , is an i m p o r t a n t F r e n c h p u b l i c a t i o n w h i c h w i l l present p o l i t i c a l , economic, and social p r o b l e m s of the day a n d c o n t i n u e the w o r k of the y o u n g w r i t e r s w h o , e v e n b e f o r e 1940, w e r e pre- p a r i n g f o r the r e n o v a t i o n of F r a n c e . I t is an e x t r e m e l y i n t e r e s t i n g and e f f e c t i v e contri- bution, as declared in the f o l l o w i n g q u o t a - t i o n : " . . .
