 First— The Hose is made of the finest quality of Rubber and Cotton Duck of the greatest possible tensile strength, woven for the exclusive use of this Company. 
 
 Second— It is elTeciually preserved from rot and decay by being charged with Carbolic Acid. 
 
 Third — The ends are made extra heavy, and strengthened, so as to successfully resist the force they are exposed to. 
 
 KoiiRiH — The ends are hermetically capped, thus excluding all air and moisture from the Cotton Duck, 
 
 FlF'i'll — The Hose will not contract or twist, but, under pressure, has the quality of elongating about 30 inches to 50 feet section.

 Mercer Street, in the City of New York, until 10 o'cliK-k a.m., Monday, Decem- 
 ber 12, 1881, at which lime and place ihey will be publicly opened by the heail 
 of said Department and read. The award ol the contracts will be ma<le as soon 
 as practicable after the opening of the bids. 
 
 ; Ten thousand (10,000) feet ol the hose is 10 be of seamless j)atent improved 
 
 carbolized steam fire engine rubber lined hose, made of best (lulf cotton and best 
 I'ara rubber, Maltaaa,.Oroaa Hranil ; to be not less than four (4) ply, with 
 five (5) ply and capped ends; of two and one-half (2 'i) inches internal diameter . 
 in lengths of fifty (50) feet each, with New York Fire I )epartment standar<l coup- 
 lings attached ; each and every length of the hose and of the couplings attached 
 is to be capable of resisting a pressure test of three hundred (300) pounds to the 
 scpiare inch without twisting or turning more than ime (i) revolution, or elongat- 
 ing more than thirty-six (36) inches, or increasing in exterior diameter more than 
 one-fourth ('4) of an inch at any point, and is to weigh not more than seventy 
 (70) pounds without the couplings. 
 
 Five thousand ( 5,000) feet of the hose is to be of Haker multiple woven 
 tubular fabric rubber-lined cotton fire hose, twenty five hun<lred (2,500) feet of 
 the .same to be lour (4) ply, and twenty-five hundred (2,soo) feet to lie three (3) 
 ply. To be made of the best GuU and "I'eeler" cotton, ajid lined with best 
 I'ara rubber, of two and one-half (2'^) inches internal diameter, in lengths of 
 fifty (50) feet, with New York Fire Department standard couplings attached. 
 Each and every length of the hose and of the couplings attached is to be capable 
 of resisting a pressure test of three hundred (300) pounds lo the s(|uare inch 
 without twisting or contracting, or expanding in external diameter more than 
 one-eighth Cs) <if an inch at any point, or elongating more than forty-two (42) 
 inches, and is to weigh not more than fifty-three (5 ) pounds for the four (4) ply, 
 and not more than forty-seven (47) pounds for the three (3) ply. 
 
 All the hose is to be delivered at the Repair Shops of the F'ire Department, 
 Nos. 130 and 132 West Third Street, on or lieiore the sixtieth day after the 
 execution of the contract. 
 
 The New York Fire Department have between period above stated and Jan. I, 
 
 1884, bought 2S,000 feet of the Maltaaa Oroaa. 
 
 The New York "City Record'' of Feb. 0, 1SS4, calls for 2Bf000 feet more 
 of the Maltaaa Oroaat ami 1,000 feet of Maker Cotton Hose. 
 
 This makes BOtOOO feet of the Maltaaa Oroaa brand supplied by us to 
 the F'ire Department of the City of New \ork within two years.
