That the Bill to levy additional taxe? for tlie year 2 1865, for the support of the government, be recommitted to the 3 Committee of Ways and Means, with instructions to report a 4 bill providing tkat the taxes for the year 1865 shall, so far as 5 the same may be payable in Treasury note?, be payable exclu- 6 sivcly in Treasury notes hereafter to be issued. That the amount 7 of such Treasury notes shall be limited to double the amount of 8 the taxes estimated for the year 1865. That the Treasury notes 9 now outstanding shall be fundable in six per cent bonds. That 10 a tax in kind be levied on cotton, tobacco and specie. That the 1 1 existing rate of taxation be so modified as to enable the country 1 2 to meet the taxes in the improved currency. pH8.5
