LAST OPPORTUNITY to escape en- rollment under the Conscript Law. $50 Bounty. $24 per month wages. I am authorized by the Secretary of War to raise in Western Va. a Battalion of mounted men to serve as a Partisan corps during the war. I have established a recruiting station at Wytheville. Col. Henry A. Edmundson of Roanoke and Capt. John J. Wade of Montgomery, will aid me in the organization of the Battalion. The terms offered are most favorable to those who wish to enter the ser- vice. Those enlisting will be entitled to a bounty of #50 and a full share in the proceeds of the sale or an equal division in kind of all property captured from the enemy. Rations and clothing furnished by the Government as to regular troops; wages per month, #24 to each soldier furnishing his own horse. Whilst our enemies are urging forward their new levies by the thousand, let us not be idle. I appeal to the citizens of Western Virginia to come forward and enlist in the largest Partisan corps in the Confederate States. To the conscripts who are now being en- rolled, with a view to fill up the skeleton regiments throughout the State, this service presents (besides the pecuniary inducements of- fered) pleasant service on horse back, with friends and neighbors in defence of our homes. Conscripts must enlist before they are enrolled — only a few weeks can be given to the organization of the eight companies which will form the Battalion. Several companies are now ready and recruits are applying for admission from all quarters. Articles of enlistment will be sent to all the counties in the South-west so as to afford an opportunity to the conscripts to join before they are drafted. Recruits will report themselves promptly to the Officer in charge of the rendezvous at Wytheville. ROBERT C. TRIGG, July 21, 1862. Col. 54th Rest. Va. Vols.
