0*n 1^31 ' 1 - #■3/ Duke University Libraries (Resolutions fa Conf Pam qi»37 WHEREAS, His Excellency the Governor lias brought the question of the justice and propriety of* in- creasing the monthly pay of the privates and non-commissioned officers of the armies of the Confederate. States before the General Assembly ; and whereas, the General Assembly concurs in the justice and impor- tance of this reeomr. nidation ; therefore, Resolved 1st, That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be, and they arc hereby requested to bring the question before the Congress of the Confederate States, and to do all in their power by their in- iceand their votes, to procure the passage of an act to raise the monthly pay of privates in the army to twenty dollars per month, and of non commissioned officers in like proportion, and to procure the sessment of a tax sufficient to meet the increased expenditure, to be levied, as far as practicable, upon the income of speculators and extortioners, and upon the wealth of those who are not in the army. Resolved 2./. That the Governor he requested to forward a copy of these resolutions to the President of the Confederate States, and to the Governor of each State in the Confederacy, and to each of our R« ji- atatives in Congress.
