 H E historic city of Trenton traces its existence back to the year 1680 at which time a mill was 
 built at the mouth of the Assanpink Creek. The place was then known as "The Falls" and held 
 that title until 1714 when the interests of the original founder, Mahlon Stacy, were transferred to 
 Colonel William Trent, and thus was derived the name Trent-town, later shortened to the present 
 Trenton. Trenton has been a city since 1792, when it was granted a charter by the State legisla- 
 ture. It became capital of the Stare in 1790. The population in 1810 was approximately 3,000, 
 which has increased steadily until now her inhabitants number Ho,ooo persons. 
 It covers an area of nine square miles of which one hundred and fifty acres are devoted to parks. 
 
 The assessed valuation of the city is forty millions and the public debt two million dollars. There are forty miles of 
 
 electric railroad; one hundred miles of streets, thirty miles of which are paved. 
 
 Trenton is a strictly American city, modern and up-to-date in every respect, and her streets which in Washington's time 
 
 resounded to the tramp of the contending armies now tell with unmistakable voice the story of the armies of industry. 
 
 Trenton is splendidly equipped for the education of her young. Thirty public schools cater to the needs of over nine 
 
 thousand pupils. 
 
 On account of her adjacency to the great cities of the Atlantic Seaboard, Trenton offers unusual advantages for the ship- 
 ment ot manufactured goods. Her means of communication by rail and water are unsurpassed. Her citizens cordially 
 extend the hand of welcome to all comers.
