White-tail Nature Trail s - = - - - - º i General Regulations This goose, designed by J.N. “Ding” Darling, has become the symbol of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Facilities The Refuge is open daily from 5:00 am until 10:00 pm. The Refuge Office and Visitor Center is open weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except on Federal holidays. A section of the North Lake Road is open to vehicles year-round as shown on map. The Prairie Lake Auto Tour is open to vehicles from May 14through September 30. All other Refuge trails are closed to vehicles to minimize disturbance to migratory birds. The Point Road is open if passable until November 1. Deer and pheasants are the only animals that may be hunted on the Refuge. All other animals and birds are protected. No swimming is allowed in Refuge WaterS. The Sprague Lake Unit (except for Sprague Lake) and the portion of the Tewaukon Unit west of County Road 12 is closed January through August to minimize disturbance to wintering, migrating, nesting, and breeding wildlife. The collection of all plants, artifacts (bottles, bones, arrowheads), or animals and their parts (antlers, eggs, feathers) is prohibited. Please leave them for others to enjoy. PACK IT OUT! The Refuge has a “Pack It Out” trash policy. Help keep your Refuge clean. Outdoor grills, picnic tables, a picnic shelter, rest rooms, a fishing dock, and a boat ramp are located on the east end of Lake Tewaukon. All facilities are universally accessible. Lake Tewaukon has three boat ramps, and two boat ramps are located on Sprague Lake. Kiosks with Refuge information are located at the north boat ramps and east end of Lake Tewaukon, at the Refuge Office and Visitor Center, and at Sprague Lake. Prairie Lake This 8-mile auto tour route starts Auto Tour on the North Lake Road and is open from May 1 through September 30. Pull-offs are marked by signs. Pick up an auto tour brochure at the Refuge Office and Visitor Center or at the beginning of the tour route. Parker's Bay This marker tells the story of Monument General Sibley's 1863 expedition and camp. It is located on the east end of Lake Tewaukon. Lake Tewaukon Enjoy a scenic view of Lake Overlook Tewaukon. Experience flocks of waterfowl, bald eagles, and the beauty of this 1,000-acre lake. The overlook is located off County Road 5 on the south side of the lake. Refuge Office and 4. The Refuge Office and Visitor Visitor Center Center has several interpretive displays including a wetlands diorama, and migratory bird and artifact displays. Brochures and accessible rest rooms are also available. Prairie Garden Walk along a short accessible path through this area dedicated to restoring native prairie grasses and wildflowers. Enjoy the variety of plants that once thrived on North Dakota's tallgrass prairie. John Langie 6. A tribute to John Langie, the first Monument wheat farmer in Sargent County in 1873, is located on the entrance road to the Refuge Office and Visitor Center. Tewaukon A natural land peninsula projects Peninsula into Lake Tewaukon and is a valued (The Point) historic site and fishing area. White-tail 8. This 1/2-mile nature trail starts Nature Trail north of the Refuge Office and Visitor Center and is open from May 1 through September 30. This grass trail loops through several types of wildlife habitat. Fishing in Bank fishing is permitted year- round on Lake Tewaukon and Sprague Lake. Boat fishing is allowed on both lakes from May 1 through September 30. m Power boating, waterskiing, and jet skiing are prohibited on both lakes. * All other Refuge waters are closed to fishing. Size Limits m Walleye - minimum length 14" In Northern Pike-minimum length 24" * Tiger Muskies - minimum length 40" m All other fish species may be kept according to North Dakota State fishing regulations. m All other North Dakota State fishing regulations are in effect.
