ANN ARBOR: PRIINTED AT THE MICHIGAN ARGUS OFFICE. 1873. 4U~'TWLES @iOFi ASlU0IATTONM ARTICLE 1. This Association shall be known as the'L ALDI ES' LIBRARY ASSOCIATION OF ANN ARBOR." ART. 2. The object of this Association shall be to establish and maintain a Library, and to afford other means of moral, intellectual, and social improvement. ART. 3. The corporate powers shall be vested in a Board of fifteen directors, five of whom shall be elected at each annual meeting, and shall hold their office for three years and until their successors are elected: Provided. That said Board of Directors shall not contract debts, nor sell any property of the Association, except in pursuance of a vote of the same at a regular meeting. ARaT. 4. The officers shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer who shall also be Collector, and shall be elected from the Directors at each annual meeting. All vacancies, either of officers or directors, occuring during the year, shall be filled by the Board. ART. 5. The President, and in her absence the Vice-President,. shall preside at all meetings of the Association and of the Directors. She shall call special meetings of the Association by order of the Board of Directors, or upon the written application of seven-members; of the Directors, upon the written application of three members; or of either when in her judgment the interests of the Association demand it. ART. 6. The Secretary shall perform the usual duties pertaining to that office, and shall present a report at each annual meeting, and whenever called for by the Board of Directors. ART. 7. The Treasurer shall receive all moneys for the Association, and disburse the same on the order of the Board of 4 ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION. Directors, signed by the Secretary. She shall keep an account of the receipts and disbursements, and make a report thereof to the Association annually; to the Board of Directors quarterly, and oftener if required; and shall give such security for the faithful discharge of her duties as the Directors shall require. ART. 8. The Board of Directors shall meet monthly, and nine members shall constitute a quorum. If any member of the Board shall absent herself from its regular meetings for more than two successive months, without giving satislactory reason therefor, her place may be declared vacant. ART. 9. The Board of Directors shall designate three of their number as a Book Committee, with power to select and purchase books, subject to the approval of the Board. They shall also appoint a Librarian, and Assistant Librarian if deemed necessary, and define their duties. ART. 10. Any lady may become a member of the Association by subscribing to this Constitution and paying an admission fee,of three dollars. Each member shall also be subject to a yearly tax of one dollar, the same to be paid in advance, at or before each annual meeting. A11T. 11. Any gentleman contributing fifty dollars to the funds of this Association shall be made an honorary life member, and be constituted an advisory member of the Board of Directors. Any gentleman paying the same fee and tax as is required of lady members shall be entitled to the privilege of the Library. ART. 12. A portion of Scripture shall be read at each meeting, in the order and by whom the President shall direct. ART. 13. The annual meeting of this Association shall be held on the second Monday in April, and the Secretary shall give such notice thereof, and also of special meetings, as the by-laws shall prescribe. ART. 14. The Board of Directors may make such by-laws as they shall deem necessary, not inconsistent with this Constitution, and amend the same at pleasure. ART. 15.
