Conventions, exhibitions and trade show managements listed herein welcome attendance at their meetings from abroad. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE / U.S. Travel Service Listed herein are over 100 major conventions, exhibitions, trade and industrial shows being held in the United States in 1969. These meetings are sponsored by U.S. professional and trade associations. Dates for 1969 are given, plus, when known, 1970 date. The associations listed answered a United States Travel Service questionnaire in which respondents indicated they welcomed attendance from abroad at their meetings. Many are offering special services and inducements to the foreign visitor. This directory is intended as a guide; it is not a complete listing of the hundreds of U.S. conventions and exhibitions that are held annually. A detailed listing of U.S. conventions ("Directory of Conventions") and an annual directory of all trade shows ("Exhibits Schedule") can be purchased ($15.00 for the Directory; and $25.00 for Exhibits) from the publication Sales Meetings , 1212 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107, USA. In the booklet "United States Conventions and Exhibitions" each event is listed alphabetically by its industry, business or profession classification. For page listing, consult the "Index to Classification" which follows, as many shows overlap functions (e.g. Engineering and Electronics). Following the index and beginning on page 5 you may wish to refer to the "Chronological List of Shows" in 1969 (events listed by their scheduled dates). Further information and details on specific conventions or shows can be obtained from the "contact" addresses appearing under each heading. For the business traveler to the U.S., ask your travel specialist for a copy of the USTS folder "Businessman's Guide" (available in several languages). -1- INDEX TO CLASSIFICATIONS Page No, Apparel, Fashion & Textile 16 Automotive 16 Aviation 18 Banking, Credit & Finance 18 Beverage 19 Building & Building Materials 19 Business & Management 20 Chemistry 21 Cleaning, Dyeing & Laundry 22 Clubs 22 Coal & Petroleum 22 Communications 22 Construction (See Building) 19 Decorating & Decorating Supplies 23 Dental 23 Education 23 Electrical & Electronics (Radio & TV) 24 Engineering 25 Farm Equipment 26 Fashion (See Apparel) 16 Food & Food Processing 26 Government 27 Hardware 28 Health, Recreation & Welfare 28 Heating, Plumbing & Refrigeration .28 -2- Page No, Hobbies & Toys 29 Hotels & Restaurants 29 House Furnishings 30 Laundry (See Cleaning) 22 Leather & Leather Products 30 Library 31 Machinery 31 Management (See Business) 20 Marketing & Merchandising (See Business) 20 Medical 31 Metal & Metal Products 33 Music 33 Optometry 34 Painting (See Decorating) 23 Petroleum (See Coal) 22 Plastics & Rubber 34 Plumbing (See Heating) 28 Political 34 Poultry 34 Purchasing (See Business) 20 Radio (See Electrical & Electronics) 24 Recreation (See Health) 28 Refrigeration (See Heating) 28 Restaurants (See Hotels) 29 Science 35 -3- Page No, Sports & Sporting Goods . 35 Television (See Electrical & Electronics) 24 Textile (See Apparel) 16 Toys (See Hobbies) 29 Transportation 35 Utilities 36 Welfare (See Health) 28 -4- Date 1969 JANUARY EVENT City Page 5-9 National Retail Merchants Association Convention 9-11 Retail Business & Equipment Exposition 12-15 Manufacturers Wholesale Outerwear & Sportswear Show 13-17 Automotive Engineering Congress & Exposition 13-17 National Association of Home Builders Con vent ion- Exhibit ion 13-17 National Housewares Exhibit 13-17 Highway Research Board 15-18 National Society of Professional Engineers 19-22 Canners Convention & National Exposition for Food Processors New York,N.Y. 20 New York,N.Y. 20 New York,N.Y. 16 Detroit, Mich, ig Hous ton , Texas 1 9 Chicago, 111. 30 Washington, D.C. 35 LasVegas ,Nev. 26 San Francisco, Calif. 27 FEBRUARY 2-6 3-6 12-14 16-22 26-28 MARCH 4-6 8-11 National Sporting Goods Association Convention Show Concrete Industries Exposition International Exposition of Intimate Apparel Supplies & Equipment Construction Industry Manufacturers Association International Automotive Service Industries Show American Institute of Laundering Convention National Association of Bedding Manufacturers Houston, Texas 35 Cleveland, Ohio 20 New York,N.Y. 16 Chicago, 111. 19 Chicago, 111. 17 Atlantic City, N.J. 22 Chicago, 111. 30 -5- Date 1969 EVENT MARCH (cont'd. ) 9-12 International Cycle Show International Toy & Trade Fair Triumph of Agriculture Exposition Western Metal & Tool Exposition American Institute of Chemical Engineers Petro Chemical & Refining Exposition National Association of Broadcasters National Shoe Fair of America Business Aircraft Engineering Display Pipe Line Conference American Orthopsychiatric Association International Automobile Show Association for Childhood Education International The Council for Exceptional Children National Association of Women Deans And Counselors 13-18 Federation of Amercian Societies for Experimental Biology 20-25 Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Technical Conference and Equipment Exhibit 22-24 Motel Association of America Convention and Exposition 9- -12 11- -12 11- -15 17- -20 23- -26 24- -26 26- -28 Mch 30 Apr 2 Mch 30 Apr 2 APRIL 5- -13 6- -11 6- -12 10- -13 City Page New York,N.Y. 17 New York,N.Y\ 29 Omaha, Neb. 26 Los Angeles, Cal . 33 New Orleans, La. 21 Washington, D.
