Kingdom to-day has been switched over to war
production.

All fit men between the ages of 18 and 50 are
fully mobilised for the forces, war industry or other
essential work.

Every woman, who can be spared from household
duties and tending children is doing full-time or
part-time war-work. Industry is still absorbing new
women recruits at the rate of 3,000 a day. In many
factories there are creches where mothers can leave
their children whilst they tend the war machines.

In addition millions, as well as filling a full-time
war job, are doing part-time Civil Defence work—
Home Guard, Special Police duties, First Aid, Fire
Fighting, Wardens, Ambulance Driving, NursingMILLI

Some of these men and women are putting in as
much as 70 or 80 hours a week in the service of the
community. On September 3rd it was announced
that fire-guard duties would become compulsory for
women as well as men.

Long hours are Worked without grumbling and
night shifts are faced with cheerful determination.
For the workers of the United Kingdom know that
it will be deeds and not words that will hasten the
end of this conflict.

To-day the United Kingdom is a country stripped
for war. And Britain’s men and women are o'n the
job—working for Victory.
